About us

The Smart Metropolis Fiware iHub is an official iHub registered with the Fiware Foundation, created in June 2024. This is the result of a long-standing partnership between the Smart Metropolis Laboratory of the Institute Metrópole Digital (IMD) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and the Fiware Foundation. The laboratory began its research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) projects in 2015. Since then, we have developed several real-world applications powered by Fiware and contributed to the evolution of the platform itself, such as adapting the platform to operate with linked data (NGSI-LD) and the development of blockchain Generic Enablers (GEs), like Canis Major.

Objective

The goal of the Smart Metropolis Fiware iHub is to support the dissemination of the FIWARE platform and related open-source technologies for smart cities in Brazil. Thus, we aim to offer workforce training, consulting, events, and the development of technologies powered by Fiware for smart cities and sustainability. Focused on this goal, we are well connected with the CIGA consortium of municipalities, Brazilian municipalities, and technology companies (startups, small, medium, and large-sized companies, both Brazilian and international).
